Science and Analysis (ESA) Strategic Capabilities Unit comprises
the technical talent and organizational leadership that enables the
successful delivery of high-impact discriminating technologies for

strong execution.What You'll Do:
- Lead the development of custom visible (CCD and visible
hybrid), NIR, SWIR, MWIR (3 - 5 micron, and LWIR (8-12 micron)
focal plane systems for space applications.
- Support the definition of imaging system architectures.
- Generate proposals for new camera systems and detector
technologies.
- Generate system specifications used to specify, develop, and
design custom detectors.
- Perform detector system analysis including radiometric
analysis, MTF analysis, noise analysis, and radiation effects
modeling.
- Lead cross functional teams including optical, electrical,
mechanical, thermal, and systems engineers to develop focal plane
hardware designs and to optimize detector system performance.
- Work directly with detector and electronics hardware to
demonstrate performance, to debug operational issues including
imaging artifacts, and to characterize devices.
- Identify opportunities for internal research and development
programs and lead funded projects to success. Contribute to the
development of the roadmap for detector systems.
- Communicate across programs to facilitate development of
devices and execution of programs within BAE Systems teams,
customers, and detector suppliers.
- Generate detector specification and statement of work for new
programs. Lead detector procurement activities and supplier
selection processes including technical subcontract management
off-site. Travel to vendor sites as needed for project execution
and device development.
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within
the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic
Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with
others in order to maintain a positive and productive work
environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary. On-Site Work Environment:
This position requires regular in-person engagement by working
on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work
location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and
other possible non-company locations may be required.Working
Conditions:
- Work is performed in an office, laboratory, production floor,
or cleanroom, outdoors or remote research environment.
- May occasionally work in production work centers where use of
protective equipment and gear is required.
- May access other facilities in various weather
conditions.Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field
is required plus 6 or more years related experience.
- Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D., may
substitute for two years of experience. Related technical
experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be
from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an
agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department
of Education.
- Experience in detector design, detector test, electronics
design breadboard fabrication and focal plane system test.
- Advanced knowledge of visible, NIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR
detector characterization, design, and system level
integration.
- Experience with modeling and performance analysis of visible,
NIR, SWIR, MWIR, and LWIR detectors.
- Experience reviewing detector designs and layouts, and
correlating foundry processes and solid-state physics mechanisms to
detector performance.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- developing and running radiometric and imaging tests on
detectors.
- mechanical packaging of detectors and the associated thermal
and contamination control design.
- design for EMI/EMC mitigation
- electronics lead on focal plane projects or focal plane
electronics design.
- low-noise video readout design.
- high-speed data links
- detector read-out integrated circuits (ROIC)
- FPGA configuring and coding
- hands-on electronics skills and electronic test equipment
experience.
- advanced detector integration, test, and evaluation
skills.
- Experience with detector operation in radiation
environments.
- Experience with image processing and noise reduction
algorithms.
- Experience with detector operation in a tactical environment
and/or experience with "flight" hardware programs, i.e.,
"space-qualified" hardware.
- Effective interpersonal skills including demonstrated
leadership and team building skills.
- Effective communication skills and presentation skills.A
security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be
eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing
and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements,
after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the
applicable clearance/access.Pay InformationFull-Time Salary Range:
$112420.000 - $191070.000Please note: This range is based on our
market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined
by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business
considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as
well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and
